Mérieux NutriSciences’ mission is to protect the health of consumers by offering analysis and support solutions for the food industry’s product development. It operates a network of laboratories around the world.

The purpose of analytical testing is, amongst other things, to detect bacteria, contaminants and impurities, and to analyse chemical components. Originally specialized in the food chain, which remains its core business, the group subsequently extended its expertise to the agrichemical, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. The company has over 50 years of experience with leading agribusiness companies. Mérieux NutriSciences and Biofortis, its contract research entity, support companies in the development of innovative products.

In March 2014, Sofina became a shareholder in Mérieux NutriSciences Corporation following a capital increase that aimed at supporting the growth of the group, which was active in a consolidating market. Institut Mérieux has been the majority shareholder of the company since 1997 as a result of the acquisition of the Silliker group in the US.

Sofina is represented on the board of directors, on the audit committee, on the nomination and remuneration committees and on the investment committee.
